| Santa Cruz de La Palma: |
Santa Cruz de La Palma is the capital of La Palma and with around 20,000 inhabitants is second largest town on the island. It is the home of the islands government.
Santa Cruz is a town which offers plenty to see for visitors.
Calle O'Daly is shopping street with traditional and modern shops, colonial houses and typical houses.
The Plaza de Espa๑a in the heart of the city is surrounded by historical buildings including thechurch Iglesia de El Salvador, the town haal in typical Renaissance style and the nostaligic Casa Pinto.
In Santa Cruz are many old 'gentlemans houses' with wooden balconies.
There are several monasteries and churches steeped in tradition. There are several museums including the Museo Naval, the naval museum housed in a replica of the Santa Maria.
The busy working harbour is regularly visited by lage cruise ships and tall ships
The town is famous for it's carnaval, the Easter Week and the religious procession Bajada de la Virgen, the festival of the patron saints of the island which is held every 5 years.
